Dear Families,
We are well into Term 2 and it’s been a busy and fun time across the school!

Semester 1 Reports
Semester 1 reports will be distributed electronically in Week 10. If you would like to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress, please contact them directly to book a meeting time. Please note that drop-off and pick-up times are not appropriate for these discussions, as teachers are focused on student supervision. Please let your teacher know if you would like a printed school report.
Aboriginal Six Seasons Collaboration
We are thrilled to be working with Aboriginal Six Seasons, who are currently completing a commissioned artwork for our Centre. Once finalised, this beautiful piece will feature on our new staff polo shirts and other school documents. We can’t wait to share the finished design with you!
Paint and Chat with Anglicare
Thank you to all the families who attended our Paint and Chat sessions, facilitated by Anglicare. Your involvement helped make this such a meaningful and well-attended event. We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with Anglicare, who continue to support the wellbeing of our students and families through a range of programs and services.
Meet Wes – Our New School Mascot!
We were delighted to introduce Wes, our brand-new mascot, during a special whole-school assembly. Wes is a red-tailed black cockatoo who is proudly neurodiverse and communicates using a PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display). Wes represents acceptance, inclusion, and the beauty of diversity. Our students have embraced Wes wholeheartedly and have been learning about how we are all the same but different. At WESC, we celebrate neurodiversity every single day, and Wes is now a cherished part of our school family.
End of Term Celebration – Pyjama Party Disco!
To finish the term on a high note, our PBS whole-school reward will be a Pyjama Party Disco on Thursday, 3 July. Families are warmly invited to join us for a boogie with their child from 2:20pm. We can’t wait to see everyone in their comfiest PJs ready to dance the afternoon away!
As always, thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. We look forward to finishing the term strong together!
Warm regards,
Carmen Lopez

PBS - Introducing "Wes"

Meet Wes – Our New School Mascot! 🎉
What an exciting day we had at Westminster Education Support and Primary School last Wednesday! We officially welcomed our brand new school mascot, Wes the red-tailed black cockatoo, during a special reveal assembly – and it was a celebration to remember!
Wes is neurodiverse, just like many of our students, and he helps us celebrate the unique strengths and superpowers that come with thinking and learning differently. 🧠💫
Our lucky VIP ticket holders, who found feathers during the whole school feather hunt, were treated to front-row seats, popcorn, and a special gift as they enjoyed the big reveal. The event was buzzing with music, cheers, and excitement as Wes made his grand entrance!
After the show, our VIP students got an exclusive meet-and-greet with Wes and even snapped some fun photos to remember the day.
We can’t wait to see Wes again soon at upcoming school and community events – he’s already part of the Westminster family! ❤️
Djilba Season
SECOND RAIN
SEASON OF CONCEPTION
AUGUST & SEPTEMBER
COLOUR – ORANGE
To represent spiritual connection to the land (boodja) through the warmth of karl (fire),ngardanginy (hunting practices) and the preparation of the land for growth and transition into the flowering Season of Kambarang.
Djilba is welcomed by the bright yellow flower of many Acacia varieties. The weather is cold and birds are taking shelter from the sudden showers, then busy themselves with nest preparation during the mild sunny days. Food is abundant and animals begin pairing to prepare for offspring. Yonga (Kangaroos) and weitj (Emus) are taking advantage of the new growth and venture further inland as water sources are replenished and food is in abundant supply.
As we progress though the Season and the weather warms, we can expect protective koolbardi (magpies) to guard their nest area by swooping upon uninvited guests, the djidi djidi (willy wagtail) dances to distract and chase larger birds and predators away with a swoop and loud clicking sound. The brushtail possum sometimes takes bird eggs for protein and is relentlessly chased away by the djidi djidi. Nearing the end of the Season, the grass tree (balga) will grow magnificent flower stalks and the yellow-green large cone flowers of the poolgarla (bull banksia - banksia grandis) can be seen. Traditionally, the cones were used to start campfires (karla) and were also useful for transporting the hot fire coals to a new location.

News from Kambarang 6
We are very excited about all the fun and learning happening in Term 2! The students in Kambarang 6 have been busy exploring new experiences, making friends, and building important skills through play and hands-on activities.
In Literacy, we are learning to blend and segment words, which helps us with our reading. The students are working hard to build their phonics skills and grow in confidence with books and sounds. In Maths, we are skip counting by 2s, exploring patterns, and practising counting forwards and backwards. These activities are fun and help us become more confident with numbers. In HASS, we are learning about different celebrations from around the world. We explore these through songs, craft, and fine motor activities, which help us understand and appreciate different cultures. In Health, we are learning important social skills, which are being reinforced through structured play activities.
In Talk for Writing, we recently completed Old MacDonald Had a Farm, where the students enjoyed retelling the story using AUSLAN signs for key words. They were highly engaged and confident in performing the actions and repeating the story. We are now exploring Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the children have been showing even more enthusiasm as they learn the story through actions, repetition, and interactive play.
Each week, the students in Kambarang 6 come together with our friends from Kambarang 7 for a shared social and messy play session. These sessions are a wonderful opportunity for the children to develop important social skills such as turn-taking, sharing, and communicating with others. Through structured play, students are learning how to interact positively with their peers while building strong and meaningful friendships in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. A much-loved highlight of the week is our Wednesday afternoon sensory play, where students engage in hands-on exploration with a variety of textures including edible dirt, oobleck, jelly, slime, shaving foam, and water. These fun and engaging experiences not only spark curiosity and laughter but also support sensory development and peer connection. The students are always excited for Wednesdays and look forward to these sessions with great enthusiasm.
We are proud of all the wonderful learning happening and can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
