FLOWERING SEASON
SEASON OF BIRTH
OCTOBER & NOVEMBER
COLOLUR - YELLOW
To represent the wildflowers (Djet Malkakoom) that cover the country during the Kambarang Season.
During the transition from Djilba to Kambarang Season, the weather rises in temperature with increasingly warm to hot dry days and less cold fronts coming from the coast. Wildflowers Djet Malkakoom, flower this time of year and an abundance of colour is displayed across country boodja.
With the weather warming, reptiles such as Karda (Goanna), Noorn (dugite), Wakarl (Carpet Snake), Nornt (Tiger Snake) and Yoorn (Bobtail) emerge from their Seasonal hibernation looking for food and a warm place to reproduce.
The Koolbardi (Magpie) are noticeably protective of their newly born offspring and bush animals that rely on the receding fresh water sources could be found by traditional hunters who sustainably collected waterfowl eggs, frogs, tortoises and marron. Traditionally, people would also move closer towards coastal areas, catching fish, crabs and shellfish to supplement their diet, where the whale migration along the Western Australian coastline is occurring.

News from Koorlangka 4
A warm welcome to our Pre-Primary/Year One class in Koorlangka 4! It has been a joy to watch the students settle in over the term and meet new friends and become familiar with our classroom routines. Our dedicated Education Support staff have been assisting the students every step of the way, ensuring a smooth transition into this exciting new year.
This year, we are continuing to build on the routines and skills from the previous year. The children are already doing an amazing job of unpacking their bags each morning and checking their individual work schedules. This helps them feel independent and confident in their learning journey.
In English, we are focusing on programs like EUFLI Phonics and Talk4Writing, which are helping the students develop strong language skills in a fun and engaging way. This term, we have had a fantastic time retelling The Gingerbread Man through story mapping and hands-on experiences. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice their storytelling, creativity, and fine motor skills.
The students have also been fantastic at learning to transition around the school to specialist subjects such as Science, Technology, and Music. They are becoming more confident navigating the school and embracing new learning experiences.
We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing, and developing. As the students continue to build their understanding of new concepts, they are also working on important social skills, such as turn-taking and sharing during cooking experiences as well as in our ILC. It’s been a pleasure to watch them learn these important life skills.
They have recently participated in swimming lessons which has been fantastic as they have all loved being in the water and travelling by bus to get to the pool, learning to wait, listen to instructions and being in a new and exciting environment.
We are all excited for what’s to come in the year ahead and can’t wait to see all the amazing things our students will achieve.
Warm regards,
Christine Bloomfield and the Education Support Staff of Koorlangka 4
